The handle jiggled again and Brenna heard the scrape of metal on the lock. Snow growled low in her throat, ears perked, eyes flicking from the handle to Brenna’s face.
A curse sounded along with the scratching of metal and then finally there was an audible click. Brenna bounced away from the door, giving a quick glance at Theo before the door banged open hiding him from view.
A stranger stood in the doorway, taking up the entire expanse. Shoulders as wide as the door frame, and just as tall, he glowered down at her with haunting blue eyes. Behind him she could hear the shuffling of someone else, but she couldn’t see him other than to recognize his plaid was not MacLeod, and neither was the stranger facing her.
Snow stood on all fours, hackles raised as she growled threateningly, teeth bared. A caring nursemaid she was, she could also be a fearsome guard. The warrior looked at the dog, whistled and flicked his hand. Snow ceased her growling, contemplated the man and then retreated to her place in the corner with the boys.
Brenna’s mouth fell open in shock and horror. How could he command her dog in such a way? And Snow! Traitor!
“Who...” She swallowed around the fearful lump that had formed in her throat, then forced herself to stand tall when she really wanted to retreat. “Who are ye?” she demanded.
The warrior was over a foot taller than she, his golden head bumping against the top of the door frame. When he stepped into the chamber, he actually had to bend slightly to the side and duck. There was nothing small about him. Muscles pulled at the confines of his shirt. Her gaze was riveted to the broad expanse of his chest, the silver brooch that held his plaid at his shoulder sparkled, a single emerald in the center glinting in the light of her candle. She held her breath as she scanned him from the top of his kilt all the way to the end just above his knees. Strong calves were encased in leather boots. He was covered in weapons. A sword at his back, one at his waist. A dagger strapped to his belt, bracers on his forearms, and a needle-nose sharp instrument in one hand. A warrior. Ready for battle. By the time her gaze roved back to his face, she was trembling.
Hard and fierce blue eyes stared down at her, sending a shiver racing over her skin. His flaxen hair was cropped short; the same shade of hair covered his chin in a short beard, lining a strong square jaw. His face was broad, but not overly so, and could have been cut from marble, the angles were so precise. His lips were set in a determined line, but even that fierce look didn’t take away from their shape. The V indent at the top that gave them a mesmerizing outline. To be certain, Brenna had never seen a man more handsome, or more terrifying, in her life. Not even Ronald or Thomas ever frightened her by their sheer presence alone. And there was nowhere to go. Rooted in place, her gaze locked on his, she waited for him to tell her just who the hell he was.

Tudor New Release You Won't Want To Miss!

When I took AP European History, I barely studied. Why? Because I'd soaked up a ton of it already by reading Jean Plaidy/Victoria Holt. The French Revolution was covered by reading The Emperor's Lady by F.W.Kenyon. People don't realize how much actual-and well researched-history goes into historical fiction. And it comes alive in these books. So I'm thrilled to share with you the release of a terrific Tudor novel - My Lady Viper by my talented friend E. Knight.

May, 1536. The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen.

When Anne Boleyn falls to the executioner's ax on a cold spring morning, yet another Anne vows she will survive in the snake-pit court of Henry VIII. But at what cost?

Lady Anne Seymour knows her family hangs by a thread. If her sister-in-law Jane Seymour cannot give the King a son, she will be executed or set aside, and her family with her. Anne throws herself into the deadly and intoxicating intrigue of the Tudor court, determined at any price to see the new queen's marriage a success and the Seymour family elevated to supreme power. But Anne's machinations will earn her a reputation as a viper, and she must decide if her family's rise is worth the loss of her own soul . . .

A Sexy, Kilted New Release!

I'm thrilled to have such talented chaptermates who churn out new books every month. Today I'm sharing with you the latest sexy Scottish historical from bestselling author Eliza Knight, The Highlander's Sin.

He stole her away… But she set him free…
They called him The Priest. Maybe because of his billowing black robes and the steel crucifix that hung around his neck. Or perhaps it was because those who met him were compelled to pray. But Duncan Mackay was anything but a saint. He was a sinner—a paid mercenary. Until he met her, and she made him want to change his ways.

Lady Heather Sutherland, has never been compelled to follow rules. And this time, she’s gone too far. Following in the footsteps of her brothers and cousins, she chooses to join the fight for Scottish freedom—and gets herself abducted by a handsome, rogue warrior, whose touch is sweet sin.

Duncan’s duty was clear—steal Heather away from Dunrobin Castle. What he didn’t expect, was to be charmed by her spirit and rocked by her fiery kiss. Now, he doesn’t want deliver her to those who hired him, instead he wants to keep her all to himself.
A fun excerpt...

“Hold on to my back,” he instructed, turning around and glancing at her over his shoulder. “Wrap your legs around my waist and your arms around my neck.”

She gave him an incredulous look, which he ignored. Turning back toward the wall, he tested the rope he’d used to climb down. Still secure. Good.

“What?”she whispered harshly. “Ye canna possibly—”

He cut her off, flicked her another annoyed gaze over his shoulder. “I assure ye,’tis possible, and I do intend to.” Duncan again presented her with his back.“Grab hold. Now.”

Heather didn’t hesitate, thank goodness, but touched her hands to his shoulders and jumped, wrapping her legs around his waist and a death grip around his neck. Duncan swallowed and tugged at her arms. If he hadn’t known better, he might have thought she was trying to kill him.

“Not so tight, else I lose my breath and we both fall.”

Heather loosened her grip on his neck, but tightened her thighs around his hips. Duncan had to force himself not to groan. The lass had yanked up her skirts a little to allow enough flexibility in her clothing to grip him. A smooth calf brushed his elbow.

Mo chreach…he might just drop her. It had been much better when he’d imagined her legs to be as burly as his own.

“Where are the guards?” she asked.

“Gone.”He didn’t expound but began to climb.

Hand over hand, feet gripping the rope. He pulled them up at a steady pace, his muscles working with the added weight. Sweat trickled over his back, his arms. His palms grew damp but didn’t hinder his progress. Heather clung tight to him. Whispered prayers, begged forgiveness for her sins, and wished not to die. Duncan held in his laughter, and at last they reached the ledge.

“Let go of my neck and pull yourself up onto the top.” Pushing off the wall gently with his foot, he twisted his body around so Heather’s back was against the stone.

“I dinna know if I can.” Fear ebbed around the edges of her words.

“Aye, lass, ye can,” Duncan spoke with knowing authority. “Go on. Do it now.”

Heather blew out a breath, warm against his neck, then let go with one hand.

“That’s it, Heather. Grip the wall.” Letting go of the rope with one hand, he slid it under her thigh—gritting his teeth at the suppleness of her flesh. He didn’t know which was more painful—holding up their weight on the rope with a single hand or touching the softness of her thigh. “I’ve got hold of ye. Ye can do it.”

She seemed to gain some measure of safety from his grip on her thigh and took off her other hand, hoisting herself up onto the wall walk of the battlements.

Duncan made quick work of hoisting himself onto the stone floor and pulling up his rope. The sun was quickly rising. It wouldn’t be long before guards came to relieve those Duncan had dispatched of. He tied off the rope on a crenellation, preparing for them to go down the other side.

“Get on.” He crouched down, and Heather climbed onto his back again.

“Do ye make it a habit of having women ride ye?” she asked.

Duncan choked on his tongue. Holy Mother, did she realize what she’d just asked? With a wicked grin, he turned to glance over his shoulder. “Aye, lass, as often as I can.”

Even in the dusky morning, he could see her face color red as a berry. Just to make her glow redder, he winked, satisfied when she let out a little gasp.

After making sure that the area below the wall was clear, he gripped the rope tight and climbed over the side. With measured movements, he walked them down the wall. The climb down was always easier than up. Once they were on solid ground, Heather dropped to her feet. He turned to see her smoothing out her skirts.

“Dinna be modest on my account, I’ve had your legs wrapped around me, your bare thigh under my fingers.”

She let out an outraged snarl. “Only because if ye didna, I’d have ended up dead.”

He snickered. “’Haps. Or maybe I just wanted the privilege.”

“Ye’re a brute.”

Duncan bowed low. “I thank ye.”

“’Twas not a compliment.”

One of the best things about having author friends is getting to read their books early. So I can tell you that if you love food and wine, you'll love the hot new contemporary romance by my friend Eliza Knight. If the cover alone doesn't convince you, keep reading below for the blurb and excerpt!

THE REBOUND PACT  by Eliza Knight

Just one taste is never enough...

The attraction between Gabrielle and Holden still sizzles on the surface even after all these years since their last encounter. Having just experienced serious relationship breakups neither one is

ready to start again. Instead, they make a rebound pact. Casual sex, no strings attached—and rule #1? Don't fall in love. Problem is, with each scorching encounter, Gabrielle and Holden find
themselves falling hard and fast.

After college, Gabrielle Dane makes one terrific mistake. Thinking she's sneaking into her crush's bedroom at an all-night party, she ends up sleeping with her older brother's best friend. It’s only when the sun comes up that she recognizes Holden Bellamy. Mortified, Gabrielle leaves to train with a renowned chef in France, vowing never to return to her hometown and the awkwardness of her one night stand mix-up. But several years later, she finds herself doing just that, and she runs smack into the delicious man who makes her catches her breath.

Holden Bellamy, owner of Belle Ami, a critically acclaimed vineyard, has always had a thing for his best friend's little sister...even if she was off limits. Waking up to her in the morning several years back was a remarkable surprise, one that crashed and burned when she left town without a word. Now he's face to face with the woman he never stopped wondering about.

EXCERPT:

As she neared the exit, a sign caught her eye with a picture of purple grapes inside a wine glass, below it said: Belle Ami Vineyards.

“Perfect,” she muttered.

A stop at the vineyard to purchase a couple bottles of wine and then she’d head to her Dad’s place. She wasn’t ready for the conversation he’d want to have regarding Len. She stared at her empty ring finger on the steering wheel, tears already stinging her eyes. Her finger still showed the lines of where her ring had been.

Gabrielle followed the signs for the vineyard, pulling into a nearly empty parking lot, her tires crunching over the gravel. There were only three other cars parked.

Damn. She hoped they hadn’t closed already. She’d forgotten how everything in the town of Mount Airy kept farmer’s hours.  She climbed out of the car and walked toward the entrance. The door opened easily when she pulled, but she didn’t see anyone. She walked up to the bar and picked up the tasting menu.

Gabrielle loved wine. Had even volunteered at many a wine tasting event, pouring glasses, talking shop to wine enthusiasts, and even turning some non-winos into vino connoisseurs.

The Belle Ami merlot looked right up her alley with a tangy bouquet of pomegranate and cocoa. She turned in a circle, her fingernails tapping against the “green” pressed bamboo counter.

“Can I help you?” a smooth, sensual, very male voice said from behind.

Oh. My. God.

Gabrielle turned around slowly, unable to breathe. She came face to face with Holden Bellamy. His face itself was perfection in the flesh. Chiseled. A wide square jaw, cheek bones she’d kill for, kissable lips and a nose that spoke of good genes. Dark brown, nearly black hair cut short enough to be in style, but still rugged, a few strands falling over his forehead. Her entire body stilled as she gazed at him, wide-eyed.

He was just as alluring, if not more so than he’d been before.

A jolt of longing wracked her. Her belly fluttered. Goosebumps rose along her arms making her skin tingle. Memories came flooding back of their one night together. Her body hadn’t forgotten, even with the passing of time, and neither had her mind. But with those memories and the pull of her attraction came regret. For what she’d thrown away. For the hurt she’d caused him. For not telling him the truth.

He wore a tight black t-shirt with the winery’s logo on his right pec. His jeans looked to be designer and if he turned around… She gulped, gazing at his flawless physique and then back up into his crystal blue eyes that seemed to delve right into the center of her soul. A light bulb sparked inside her mind. Bellamy… Was it possible this was his winery? A play on words?

“Gabrielle?”

He remembered her. Her stomach tightened. Of course he remembered her. She’d known him for years. Her body trilled a tune, as if her flesh remembered the way he’d touched her. He flashed her a smile, showing white, faintly imperfect teeth. Teeth that had skimmed naughtily over her flesh.

“Yes, hi, it’s been so long…” She trailed off, feeling awkward at showing up here six years after walking out on him.
